Material Kitting

Lavender Composites offers material kitting services to assist our customers to manufacture accurate components in short timeframes with less labour input and reduced material consumption.

The process starts with the development of 2D patterns using 3D CAD models supplied by the client, using our in-house ply development software. Alternatively, pre-existing digital ply patterns can be supplied to us or the client can provide us with physical patterns for digitising. The digital ply patterns are then nested, optimising the layout to ensure minimal wastage while ensuring correct fibre orientation. The pieces are then cut using an accurate CNC cutter and labelled according to the digital pattern. The final step in our process is packing the pieces to ensure each piece is in the correct order for laminating at the client’s premises.

The materials that can be kitted using this process include:

    • Prepreg
    • Dry reinforcements
    • Vacuum bagging consumables
    • Cork core.

Our CNC cutter can handle a range of fibres including:

    • High-strength and high-modulus carbon fibre
    • Aramid (Kevlar/Twaron)
    • UHMWPE (ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene) (Dyneema/Spectra)
    • E-glass, S-glass, quartz
    • Bio based (flax).

Our material kitting service provides a comprehensive solution that enhances the efficiency, quality and accuracy of composite component production, making it an essential part of the modern composite manufacturing process.

Please contact us to discuss your production material requirements and how we can provide these in an efficient kit form.
